Issue Position: Advocating for Veterans and Military Families

Issue Position

As an Afghanistan veteran, Jason has personal experience as a military voter and entered the Secretary of State's office determined to make the process more convenient. Working with the legislature, Jason created a process for military voters that shortened the military absentee ballot process to as little as 48 hours in some cases. Today, Missouri has the most convenient and secure military voting process in the entire country.

As an Army officer, Jason served alongside unmarried mothers and fathers who struggled to return to their previous custody arrangements after returning home from deployments. He authored and passed legislation requiring any child custody modifications during a parent's deployment to be reviewed upon that parent's return home.

As Secretary of State, Jason successfully worked with the legislature to pass his Startups for Soldiers Act, allowing veterans and reservists to start new businesses without paying a fee because he knows that veteran business owners will go above and beyond to hire other veterans.
